Heart Disease & Exercise: Prevention & Progress
By Bruce G. Gilbert Exercise is an essential strategy to help individuals defend themselves against heart disease. Exercise also helps cardiac patients avoid a second episode. In the United States cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death. According to WebMD, Coronary artery disease causes roughly 1.2 million heart attacks each year and more than forty percent of those suffering from a heart attack will die. One of the top risk factors for heart disease is sedentary lifestyle but, fortunately it is a risk factor that you can control by exercising regularly. According to the latest joint American Heart Association/American College of Sports Medicine guidelines on physical activity all healthy adults ages 18–65 should be getting at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity five days of the week. It's easy to see why exercise is so important:
